Words

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

Our words allow people to see inside us to our very souls. When we pray, “Lord, open my lips to honor your name,” we must remember that words of anger come from the insecurity we have deep within us. By asking the God to put loving words in our mouth, we dedicate ourselves to love all people, as God loves us.

Immediately after the crucifixion, before Saul was changed by God, the disciples scattered. Their scattering was not to escape punishment, but to spread the good news that Jesus brought to the world. Their words truly glorified Jesus and God. God kept them safe, as they proclaimed the grace of God, glorifying Jesus in His holy name.

As we speak words of love, God’s Love, we also speak in praise of God, and we also are protected from all evil. Angry words do not belong coming from our lips; they are not the words God puts into our mouths. Jesus was crucified because of his words; the leaders of Israel could not accept anyone who challenged their authority. Yet, Jesus told the truth, God Truth. They asked Him, “are you the Son of God?” Jesus’s response was “You say I am.” No denial; no pleading for mercy. Jesus understood that His mission was to bring truth to the world.

We need to do the same. We need to counter all of the hatred that is spewed out by news and politicians and let God guide our way, let God guide our words in the way of eternal Peace.

Blessed God, almighty God, guide our very beings in the way of peace and love for all humanity.
