Our Lonely Places – A Prayer

Lone hiker walking through a rocky mountain valley under storm clouds

Jesus made real honest friendship a truly important essential part of a balanced spiritual life. This was his second most important commandment. Even though he lived on the margins of society, he preached this to the Pharisees in the Synagogues. So, fear not my brothers and sisters. Wherever you are, Jesus will find you in your lonely places. For God is our home. God is within us. God is our soul.

Many times in the Bible, He’s the besets to knock. He just asks us to seek. Never telling us where—yet he tells us to look within ourselves. Yet we don’t listen. In our capitalist Christian world, we forget these simple things. God is within us. That’s what Jesus came to say. God is not hiding. In our deep dark lonely places, that is where we find God. We are not alone.

Yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for God is with me. God is there… God is here… God is here… Amen.
