Intellectual Humility (. . . ?)

Jesus gives us one great message early in his ministry. It includes many items of God’s care and mercy for those less fortunate and afflicted members of our society; we call this “The Sermon on the Mount.” Jesus goes on to say that each person is special to God. For example, God says to Jacob, “I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; You are mine.” (Isa 43). The gift God gives us humans is light to see others as He does!
Our leaders decide how to care for those in need; but this care is superficial; it does not look at the need of the poor and what is asked for by Jesus in his sermon. Why is it that those with high degrees showing their intelligence and wearing their three-piece suits, eating the finest of steaks, feel that it is proper to allow those in need to wear cast-off clothing, eat donated food in church basements, and live on the streets in cardboard boxes. Where is the devotion to mankind? Where is the love?
In his sermon, Jesus goes on to say that those in need are the light of the world, and they are hidden by society just like a lamp hidden under a bowl Then he tells his people, go, do your thing, with the light of God shining out from within them, for all to see; do God’s work as He would ask. You, after all, are His beloved people.

Dreams as Symbols

I am but a wee breath of air
blended with the mild breeze
that gently tingles the small hairs on your forearms.
Beloved one, it is I, God breathing life into you.

I gave life to you in Eden
with the same breeze you now feel
I gave you control of my creation
Yet you lost trust in my benevolence, my love.

Look at my clouds, great symbols
of trust and prosperity, bringing water
and wealth! For you, my beloved
relax, think of clouds as good;
I made them for You.

I am lost

I am lost. . .
I have fallen!
My sense of life is tragic;
the prophets tell me
to talk about it,
show my astonishment,
pay attention to God’s Salvation,
get back up. . . pursue
a life of character,
work with God’s helping hand
to gain inspiration and integrity. . .
and be lost no more.

Guidance Be Felt and Known

God. . .
His Presence felt all the time;
I love him!
He is mysterious. . .
hard to receive His omnipresence.
Yet, Her wisdom is strongest. . .
when we allot it with others!
We create myths and mysteries. . .
Is Jesus real?
Is resurrection real?
God’s persistent presence. . .
God’s loving Grace. . .
The words in my mind. . .
How sweeter than honey!
God’s life sustaining life force. . .
He is creative and sustaining. . .
Opening my eyes, ears, minds, to all
A shower of goodness for all people to enjoy. . .
Her Guidance to be Felt and Known!

Leadership

We step out our doors –
see the need all around:
homeless families,
begging for a meal;
veterans in need of care,
lying in the doorway of an abandoned building.
We look to our government
and find false promises.
The wealthy families
are blind to the need;
the poor are blamed
for a lack of industry.
Our churches promise help,
but first the ancient boilers must be replaced,
the old pews refinished,
and the altar shined for Jesus to see.
There is no leadership here
except from God –
WE must take God’s lead
for those he chose to live with on earth.

Obeying God’s Word

Not an easy task, obeying God’s Word. We read our Bibles and other holy books and see such requests as “sell all your possessions to follow me.” This is a hard task to follow, considering that we toil hard to live in our nice homes and drive our nice cars. This is why we spent all that money to attend college. Why would God ask us to do this to follow Him? Well, He doesn’t! God asks us to do two things: Love Him and love each other as we love ourselves. Period. Exclamation point! Period. God gave us this law and asks us to follow it. And, He knows the content of our hearts. We cannot separate ourselves from God, nor can we ignore His call for action.
he other day, God turned me around and I notice a lump across the parking lot. I entered the café behind me with my wife for breakfast. Something was eating at me while I joked with the server and spoke with those around us. My wife said that the lump was a homeless person. We then discussed how wrong our country is with its many multibillionaires, trillion-dollar corporations, billions spent on the military, and thousands upon thousands of poor and homeless who cannot afford life in these United States. When we left the cafe, God invited me to cross the parking lot to a man dressed in all his clothing, sweating in this heat, an old worn beach towel draped over his head. I asked his forgiveness as I handed him enough to have breakfast at the café we just left. We spoke for a minute; he blessed me for what I gave him; I discovered that he is a veteran with PTSD and is unemployable.
Our society has left behind (and written off as useless) him and all his brothers and sisters who are either homeless or in deep poverty. It is up to us to do what our society will not do. I gave this poor man enough for a breakfast; I feel guilty because I cannot do much more. Is this obeying God’s Word? Am I loving my neighbor as myself? Am I loving God?!!!!

I Do Not Set Aside the Grace of God

There are so many things that can and do go wrong in our lives that we need a strong base to support us. This cannot be human or material but must be divine and spiritual. We have this innate longing to be better; lucky we have this wonderful teacher who said, “Not my will, but Thine.” And in the country today, I ask for the Grace of God to go to the children; they are being left behind by our society. I cry for them as Jesus cried for Lazarus and all of Jerusalem. The Romans of our day, our government, have taken all of the resources away from the poorest children of our society. I cry at their loss; I pray for the Grace of God to protect them, to soften the cruel hearts of our government to restore what has been taken from them.

True Friendship

We are what God made us. We think we are weak and flawed, but that is only because society says we are. Let’s put away all the harsh words, all the slander, anger, and bitterness, and remember that our dislike and hatred for another hurts us more than it hurts those we think we hate. In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul writes: “Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.” Can we at least try this first step to true friendship?

Beauty of Creation

Spring is right around the corner. Spring, the rebirth of nature, the restart of God’s creation, the creation that never stops creating, is the time when we awaken to God’s perfection and realize that the Earth comes alive all around us. As we look around us this early Spring let’s remember that God makes His home within us, not out there in some distant heaven. If we open our hearts, our families, our communities, and our nations to this love that lives with us, that forms the very essence of our being, our life and our times would be greatly improved. Our life would be as simple as the joy of children playing together.

Intolerance or Tolerance

We (society) live in a world of choices, and sometimes our choices seem to sneak up on us (society) and tell us we have made a serious mistake. The terrible part of this is that we (society) are unable to change what we have done. We can be completely intolerant and blame it on the “other guy” (our neighbor). After all, it was his fault; he was the one who caused all the problems in the first place. Or, we can be tolerant, and roll up our sleeves and work together to fix the problems as they come along.
Our first goal is to find a common place to start. We know that place; it has been laid out before us; it is within us; God has shown us the way. The lighted path will encourage us to work together to accomplish the work the must be done for us to be in control of our own lives. If we work together, we can gain control of our individual lives as God desires us to do. We have maximum control of our lives; not for the material goals of more money, but maximum control of life, true life, the life that matters, not the one constantly reaching out for material wealth
The work God wants us to do, we can do together; it is non-adversarial; it is non-counterproductive, if that is such a word. When we work together to reach a fuller and richer life according to God’s wishes (and remember, they may be different for all of us), the result is a fulfillment not just for each individual but for society as a whole, Therefore the subject of tolerance versus intolerance really does not arise , since the fulfillment is the richness of each individual’s life.
I have always believed that a full life of prayer and love will take us a long way to avoid intolerance in our world. Let us hold this spiritual truth in our minds as we walk together on the individual paths of our lives.
