retired literature and writing professor; I write spiritual, meditative, and prayerful blogs. My life is devoted to prayer and healing prayer for all I meet.
Sometime during the sixth millennium (day) of creation, it is written as follows: “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness. . . (Gen1:26).”Billions of words in millions of volumes have been written as to the meaning of this one tiny sentence in our Bible. A few short lines later, verse 31, after seeing all He had made, He said, it was very good. God’s creation is ongoing; each time we see new plants growing, this is evidence of new creation. We could never overcome God’s perfection; we are not perfection; we are only very good. So let us strive for perfection in all we do. I start by saying Good morning to all whom I meet. Try it; it brings smiles.
Our faith leaders always wish us peace. It just rolls off our tongues so easily, can we know how to share the peace that Jesus taught. I still hear the voices of my ministers and how they talk about peace. I also return to the Sermon on the Mount and hear the love, the peace, the sharing, the compassion, the sharing, need for brotherhood, the sharing, the Word of God. All of this is pointless until we practice the art of sharing. When we remember that man, not God created the concept of religion, we should share God’s Grace and Love with all people ALL people; this is the message of Jesus. I crossed this street and began sharing God’s Love with all. I am happier and calmer; I pray those I meet are also.
I met two women this morning at the farmers’ market. We said hello and shared pleasantries about the beautiful day. We both praised God for allow us ol’ fokes’ to enjoy His beauty in the world. We laughed for two whole minutes and enjoyed each other’s company. As we parted, I said to my wife how disappointed I was that I had forgotten to ask their names; it’s not right to remember two new family members without names, just as the toothless one and the Black one. Well, we can love them just as much. At my age, if we see them next week, I wouldn’t remember a name anyway. . . just love them as sisters.
Take a long walk in nature with your eyes closed. Visualize yourself as a younger person running through the woods carefree, singing with the birds, wishing you could fly up to the branches and join them. Become the blueness of the atmosphere. . . and the whiteness of the clouds unencumbered by the any of the shadows on the ground. How free do you could feel. The energy flowing up through your feet, powering through your legs. Your heart feels stronger. You know there is something better. That’s something called motivation. Given to you by God. Let’s use it. And it is beautiful. It is Grace.
As we’re walking through our troubled world, we must take the time to do as God wishes. stop, look at the person next to you in the produce counter. Remember that this person is your brother. Picking the same fruit as you are from the same tree of life. Your family the same such as yours, struggling with the same issues that you are. As we continue along our way, we will see many people that look different from us, wear different clothing. Maybe they’re in a chair with wheels, have support stick to keep their balance, speaking words that don’t sound familiar. But they smile just as you do. Eyes squinting at the sun just as you do. They have the same belly left. Oh, how lucky we are to breathe the same air and to bask in the same sun and to pray to the same God.
When we awaken each morning, open your eyes, say thank you to God for a new day. The new day God has given us erases all of the old mistakes we’ve made up ‘til now. We can use today as a new beginning.
Each day is a new beginning of a new life. New richness. The sun is shining. Glistening off the moisture of the dew on the grass. The birds are chirping. Maybe you hear the noise of the children laughing as they’re going to school. Let’s be happy as we begin this new day. Scribble that thank you note to God that we are here to see this.
LifeAs we walk aimlessly through our overburdened lives, we should stop occasionally to look around us to see where exactly we are in God’s world. Are we really living the vows we pledge to God? Take time each day to sit on that park bench, feed the pigeons, watch the playfulness of the squirrels scampering along the branches of the trees. Use this time to breathe in the fresh air that a grateful God gives us each day to refreshes our souls and builds our inner spirits for the battles of modern societies. Give life a chance to live.
